This is the kind of red I am fond of: a bit more primitive. This building sits right on the Mississippi and was an old warehouse in the mid 1800's but now is divided into little shops. We ate at the Picket Fence Cafe where I hooked a lovely pink glass creamer for my collection. I've not spent much time in Iowa before but was agog at all the many miles of corn fields, the wholesome looking, friendly people and roadside produce stands galore. More photos to come. . .in the meantime, visit Mary @ Ruby Tuesday.
Odd as it seems, i have been to Dubuque! One of my sisters went to Loras College. This cute red house has to be near the river, the climb up US 20 to the college was great - I almost thought all of Iowa was gently rolling.
ReplyDeleteI assume that you got to Dubuque along the river road that Bob Dylan made famous, Highway 61...
Nice captures!
How nice of them to hang out their scarlet 'smalls' just for you!
ReplyDeleteYou raise an interesting point: the many variations upon Red that are available to us. I like scarlet but I also like the sort of 'burnt red' that you show. I much prefer them both to the cherry red that is the fashion. I love to go exploring different neighbourhoods as you describe here. But need to go by train or on foot, as I no longer drive. Still very rewarding though.
ReplyDeleteI bet this was fun!
ReplyDeleteWow! Biker chick like me eh? What bike have you got?
ReplyDeleteStunning, bright home but I love the facade of that older building in the second photo! Intriguing!
ReplyDeleteI miss Nova Scotia for those brightly painted house like the first pic you showed
ReplyDeleteThat's a cute red house.
