wax not, wane not
Autumn is sneaking around trying to act inconspicuous and though leaves are turning, Cosmos are as hardy as ever. I caught these in Maiden Rock, Wisconsin yesterday under a pure blue sky. Take that, Fall!

Ruby Tuesday real estate
This little blue storybook house with its shiny red door and matching mailbox is sweet find for Ruby Tuesday in St. Paul.
Summer's lease hath all too short a date.William Shakespeare
These Cardinal Flowers are growing in a rain garden near the lake, needing to keep their roots wet. They remind me of Indian Paintbrush found out west but are a more vibrant blue red. A bit of trivia: they're named after the red robes worn by Catholic cardinals and they aren't terribly prolific since they are pollinated by hummingbirds!

I surrender!

The first of all single colors is white ... We shall set down white for the representative of light, without which no color can be seen; yellow for the earth; green for water; blue for air; red for fire; and black for total darkness.
--Leonardo Da Vinci

When you glaze on a bright white ground it is like looking through colour rather than at it – like looking through stained glass.-- Fred Machetanz

The world is your kaleidoscope, and the varying combinations of colors which at every succeeding moment it presents to you are the exquisitely adjusted pictures of your ever-moving thoughts. --James Edward Allen

White is the color of the week for True Colour's Thursday. White holds hands with blue at times, like shadows on snow, puffy clouds in a clear blue sky, blue eyes in pale skin. My favorite flowers are usually white because they glow in the dark, are bright in the sunlight, and usually smell terrific. Visit Blue to see more photographer's visions in white.

ABC Wednesday--ironing day
ABC Wednesday arrived with N as the letter of the week. I'm a little late but don't want to miss adding my favorite N. . .N for Pablo Neruda, a poet I enjoy reading. I've added one short poem below with a 'white' motif and some photos to illustrate his words. You can mouse -over Neruda's photo for a biography of his very interesting life.
ODE to IRONING
Poetry is white
it comes dripping out of the water
it gets wrinkled and piles up
We have to stretch out the skin of this planet
We have to iron the sea in its whiteness
The hands go on and on
and so things are made
the hands make the world every day
fire unites with steel
linen, canvas and calico come back from
combat in the laundry and from the light
a dove is born
purity comes back from the soap suds.
[ Translated by Jodey Bateman]
